In 2020 the war erupted in Nagorno-Karabakh - a disputed territory between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The war was halted by an armistice agreement signed by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. Out of a total population of 150,000 in Nagorno-Karabakh more than 100,000 people – equivalent to two-thirds of the population – have fled to Armenia as internal refugees needing to settle, and find ways to begin a new life.
Armenia Round Table Foundation (ART) with the help of Fondation pour l’aide au protestantisme réformé (FAP) and other donors (Bread for the World, Fondation Armenia) was able to support 17 business initiatives from which 10 in Ararat and 7 in Gegharkunik bordering regions.
As the war affected families were many, it was decided to focus on families with killed or missing members, as the main bread winner was lost or missing, with an aim to enable a family towards socio-economic recovery.
Through personalized support, the families were able to launch small activities in the field of agriculture and farming that make them autonomous with the hope of being able to develop the activity. raising cattles, sheeps, or bees, production and sale of milk, cheese, honey, or even fruit tree cultivation are the activities that allowed to take over factories.
The projects provided support and opportunities that led to positive transformations in the lives of these families and helped them rebuild their futures in the aftermath of war.
