There are over 1.600 unaccompanied minors in Greece, and many more refugee children and youth in Greece find themselves in precarious conditions and vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
The Faros Drop-in Center provides a safe space for these children and youth, where they can find rest and get support in their situation. The project has a holistic approach to providing protection, social activities, psychosocial support, case management, and educational training for unaccompanied minors and refugee children and youth.
From April 2023 to March 2024, a total of 243 unaccompanied minors and refugee children have been supported through the project, with
3.394 visits to the Drop-in Center. In total, 87 minors were directly referred for housing.
"Football is much more than a leisure activity to those who attend our weekly football sessions run by the Faros drop-in center. It is a place to come together, regardless of nationality, background, or legal status. Unique things happen when you look closer than the winning score; you see conflict resolution without violence, social empowerment, and the joining together of young refugee youth. The closer we look, the more we see the therapeutic properties of coming together as a team, increased emotional control, and improved mood and self-esteem."
