This year 2025 is ending on the same note and with the same trends as the previous one, but with the added loss of a year in which we could have made progress in resolving the cancers that plague our world: a superpower that arrogates all rights to itself, its ally in the Middle East that does the same in its region, a former superpower that negotiates with the aforementioned to remain in the \u2018super\u2019 club, the bill for the health of the planet, which is becoming increasingly heavy for our children, the growing social divide in the so-called \u2018middle\u2019 class, the worrying increase in the manipulative power of AI for governance systems. The fears that this generates benefit the parties and individuals who have the least to lose in all this…
The partner churches FAP works with are experiencing these sufferings and collateral social violence head-on. I could perceive them very keenly this year through trips I have been fortunate enough to make \u2018to the East\u2019, to Lebanon, Armenia, Singapore and Japan.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In Nagasaki, eighty years after the explosion, destruction continues to haunt artists descended from the Christian Portuguese colonists.<\/p>\n

All these images add to other scandals of inhumanity, impunity and delirium of retribution worth trillions…
Yet it is also in the East and among the FAP’s partners that I encountered the resistance and revolt of those who embody the refusal to resign themselves, the reflex to survive with dignity and perseverance even without the prospect of rapid change:
– A Syrian pastor who describes his situation and that of his country in these words: %22It is not about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, it is about becoming the light inside the tunnel. This means keeping the light \u2014 not until dawn breaks, but as the light itself when the horizon has disappeared. And perhaps this is what the world needs the most from the Church today.
– A Sri Lankan professor who interprets the resurrection as a divine rebellion against the powers of death.
– A traumatized refugee teacher from Nagorno-Karabakh who is rebuilding her life by selling aromatic herbs and traditional recipes to local restaurants in Yerevan.<\/p>\n
Echoing and paralleling these experiences, I had the opportunity to admire the works of many artists from all eras and cultures. There, I could read that \u2018art is the highest form of hope\u2019 (G. Richter). Art is a universal language, understandable and appreciable by all, including opponents and adversaries. Thus, Muslim emperors in India promoted and preserved many examples of local Christian art in the 16th and 17th centuries that they admired, such as this representation of Christmas.<\/p>\n

Ex oriente lux: the Christian faith, like the sun, comes to Europe from the East. We often forget that Christianity is made up of multiple contexts. Through its modest efforts, the FAP aims to help churches and parishes welcome each year the incarnation of God\u2019s promise in their very different contexts and to root in them its vision of a reconciled humanity and creation.<\/p>\n

qui s\u2019alourdit toujours plus pour nos enfants, la fracture sociale grandissante dans la classe
dite \u00ab moyenne \u00bb, la progression inqui\u00e9tante du pouvoir manipulateur de l\u2019IA pour les
syst\u00e8mes de gouvernance. Les peurs que cela g\u00e9n\u00e8re profitent aux partis et particuliers qui
ont le moins \u00e0 perdre dans tout cela\u2026<\/p>\n
Ces souffrances et les violences sociales qui les accompagnent, les \u00c9glises partenaires
avec qui la FAP travaille les vivent frontalement. J\u2019ai pu aussi les percevoir tr\u00e8s sensiblement
cette ann\u00e9e au travers de voyages que j\u2019ai eu la chance de faire \u00e0 titre priv\u00e9 \u00ab en Orient \u00bb,
au Liban, en Arm\u00e9nie, \u00e0 Singapour, au Japon.<\/p>\n

Toutes ces images s\u2019ajoutent aux autres scandales d\u2019inhumanit\u00e9, d\u2019impunit\u00e9 et de d\u00e9lires de r\u00e9tribution en millier de milliards\u2026
Pourtant, c\u2019est aussi en Orient et parmi les partenaires de la FAP, que j\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9 la r\u00e9sistance et la r\u00e9volte de ceux et celles qui incarnent le refus de se r\u00e9signer, le r\u00e9flexe d\u2019une (sur)vie en dignit\u00e9 et d\u2019une pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance m\u00eame sans perspective de changement rapide :
– Un pasteur syrien qui d\u00e9crit sa situation et celle de son pays par ces mots : \u00ab Il ne s’agit pas de voir la lumi\u00e8re au bout du tunnel, il s’agit de devenir la lumi\u00e8re \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur du tunnel. Cela signifie garder la lumi\u00e8re \u2014 non pas jusqu’\u00e0 l’apparition de l’aube, mais comme la lumi\u00e8re elle-m\u00eame lorsque l’horizon a disparu. Et c’est peut-\u00eatre ce dont le monde a le plus besoin aujourd’hui de la part de l’\u00c9glise.
– Un professeur srilankais qui interpr\u00e8te la r\u00e9surrection comme une divine r\u00e9bellion contre les puissances de la mort.
– Une institutrice du Haut Karabakh, r\u00e9fugi\u00e9e et traumatis\u00e9e, qui se reconstruit en vendant des herbes aromatiques et recettes traditionnelles \u00e0 des restaurants locaux \u00e0 Erevan.<\/p>\n
En \u00e9cho et en parall\u00e8le \u00e0 ces exp\u00e9riences, j\u2019ai eu la chance de pouvoir admirer des oeuvres de nombreux artistes de toutes les \u00e9poques et cultures. L\u00e0, j\u2019ai pu lire que \u00ab l\u2019art est la plus haute forme de l\u2019espoir \u00bb (G. Richter). L\u2019art un langage universel, compr\u00e9hensible et appr\u00e9ciable par tous, y compris de ses opposants ou adversaires. Ainsi des empereurs musulmans en Inde ont promu et conserv\u00e9 de nombreux t\u00e9moignages de l\u2019art chr\u00e9tien local au XVIe-XVIIe si\u00e8cle qu\u2019ils admiraient, comme cette repr\u00e9sentation de No\u00ebl.<\/p>\n

Ex oriente lux<\/em> : la foi chr\u00e9tienne, tout comme le soleil, arrive en Europe depuis l\u2019Orient. Nous oublions trop souvent que la chr\u00e9tient\u00e9 se compose de multiples contextualit\u00e9s.
